Richelle Mead (the Vampire Academy series) brings us the tale of a young vampire on the run from the rest of her kind, and the human boy who provides the getaway car, as well as a reason to keep running
Nancy Holder (the Wicked series, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”) immerses us in a post-apocalyptic New York where two best friends are forced to make a choice that may kill them both
Kristin Cast (the House of Night series) introduces us to a new kind of vampire: one with roots in Greek mythology, and the power to alter space and time to save the girl he's meant to love
Rachel Vincent (the Soul Screamers series) explores a new corner of her series with the story of a leanan sidhe capable of inspiring the musician she loves to new creative heights, or draining him, and his talent, dry
And Tanith Lee (Black Unicorn) shows us what happens when a bright young woman with some supernatural savvy encounters a misguided (but gorgeous) young vampire
Review: Immortal - Love Stories With Bite is a anthology of short stories edited by P. C. Cast. I must say that I liked the Introduction by Cast, because she discusses why vampires are such a big thing - especially with teenagers. She makes some interesting points, and it was a good starting point to the anthology. Rate: 4 out of 5
Haunted Love by Cynthia Leitich Smith tells a story about a boy recently turned vampire, and how he is coping with that, living on a small town. This wasn't as much a love story as it was a mystery/ghost story, although it had a little loving in the end. Rate: 3 out of 5
Amber Smoke by Kristin Cast. I give Kristin points for the Greek-mythology stuff she came up with to explain the origin of vampires, but I feel she writes in a too much teen-oriented way. I got a little lost with all the hip-teen-talking-and-party-going, and the lusting of the leading girl after the leading boy-vampire. Rate: 3 out of 5
Dead Man Stalking by Rachel Caine. This short story in set in the Morganville vampires world, which I haven't read, but I hadn't any trouble at all being captured by the story-telling and the characters. This story follows Shane Collins as he meets again with someone he'd really rather not. Rate: 5 out of 5
Table Manners by Tanith Lee got a very interesting take on vampire mythology, and questions what we really know about vampires. The only complaint I have is that I found the story too short and wished I could know more about the characters. Rate: 4 out of 5
Blue Moon by Richelle Mead. This is not set in Vampire Academy world, but it deals with vampires - they rule humans' lives in this world. A vampire girl discovers she might be the one destined to change the status quo while she also finds out someone she could trust in. Really liked it. Rate: 5 out of 5
Changed by Nancy Holder. I didn't warm up to this one. The post-apocalyptic stuff with a vampire attack that started in New York was good, but the characters didn't make me care about them. All I could think of was when the leading girl was going to stop whining. Rate: 3 out of 5
Binge by Rachel Vincent. Very original, this take on sirens (they feed on human admiration when they sing) and leenan sidhe (they feed on human genius while feeding the human's talent). Pretty sad, too, but the ending really got to me. Rate: 4,5 out of 5
Free by Claudia Gray. This story is set in New Orleans, Summer 1841. It's about Patrice (a character that shows up in Gray's Evernight series, from what I gather), a girl free of slavery but still very much without freedom, as she is supposed to become a white man's mistress. A mysterious gentleman may be her ticket to true freedom, but will she take it? Rate: 3,5 out of 5
A 4 out of 5 rate, this book got some stories that made me want to read more of the author, and some stories that I didn't particularly care about.
