Wicked Wildfire Read-a-Thon 2014 - Wrap-Up Post

That's a wrap for another read-a-thon! As always, a fun week period composed by 11 days. I'm a big fan of WW read-a-thons, it's a low profile thing where I feel pressure-free, doing my thing whenever I feel like. So, I'm happy with this read-a-thon and how it went for me, with my goals and my books read.

Let's take a look at my goals:

• To read every day, and to read for at least an hour (two is preferable, if possible) - I'd say it went well, I think I read at least a couple of hours every day
• To enter some challenges, if not all of them - I entered all the challenges
• To update my progress every day, or most likely, every day I enter a challenge - I did the second one, I don't think I needed to post more than that
• To read 3 fiction books, and throw in some graphic novels, manga books, short stories, or novellas - I did more than that, I read 4 fiction books and a graphic novel in two volumes
• Try to keep up with reviews, writing during this read-a-thon the ones for the books I'll read - eh, not so much; weekdays were so busy that I didn't have that much time to write reviews, and the end result is that I have now 3 books to review; I had reviews saved up when this started, and now I have none (oops)

And let's do stats because I love the crap out of it:

• I read 4 fiction books (Champion by Marie Lu; Um Pequeno Escândalo by Patricia Cabot/Meg Cabot [A Little Scandal]; A Voz by Juliet Marillier [The Caller]; All Lined Up by Cora Carmack), a graphic novel in two parts (Capitão América: O Soldado do Inverno 1 by Ed Brubaker, Steve Epting, Michael Lark, John Paul Leon; Capitão América: O Soldado do Inverno 2 by Ed Brubaker, Steve Epting, Michael Lark, Lee Weeks, Stefano Gaudiano, Rick Hoberg [Captain America: Winter Soldier])
• I read 1928 pages which is way better than the last WW read-a-thon and is fairly good for the usual read-a-thon experience for me
• This is an average of 175 pages per day, which is definitely better than my daily average of 126 pages this year
• The books I read were also longer (321 pages in average) than the average page count per book this year for me (275 pages)
• The longest book was The Caller, with 456 pages, and the shortest ones were the Captain America: Winter Soldier two volumes, with 168 and 184 pages

Challenge: Guess the Title Picture Challenge hosted by Michelle @ Book Briefs

Ok, so how does this work? First you pick a book. Then you find pictures to represent the words in the book title. Then you put the pictures/clues together and try to guess what the book title is.  Get creative and make it as challenging as you want. Make a post with your Book picture puzzles and go around to different blogs and try to guess some of the puzzles. (Words like “the” “and” “on” “Of”, etc. are excluded from pictures)

I usually do a variation of this challenge as a weekly feature here on my blog, and I'm a big fan of it, so I'm going to make a couple of easy ones.

What a great weekend! I breezed through A Little Scandal,

and then I wrote a bit, in order to keep up with reviews.

Challenge: Do You Know Your Book Covers? hosted by Brenda @ Daily Mayo

My challenge is a book cover quiz to see how many book covers you can guess when just viewing a tiny portion of the book! There are some classics and some new books in a wide range of genres. The guess the book cover quiz shows a random selection of 12 books, so you can take the quiz multiple times!

Done! I got 12 of 12 points (100%) - many covers I knew, and a few were very lucky guesses. A great challenge, I always have fun figuring out which book it is from a piece of the cover.

Busy week, so I've been reading quite slowly. But I've been

enjoying my choices so far. Champion was a great ending

for the trilogy, Winter Soldier was a nice surprise,

and A Little Scandal is looking like it'll be quite fun.

For example: does it fit with the mood of the book; does it go with the main character’s emotional state?

I choose Champion, which I've finished reading on Wednesday. Reading the epilogue, it was so sad and depressing because of... reasons. (I can't spoil it, now can I? Even picking this pair book/song feels a little spoilerish.) Anyway, the sense of melancholy, and the specific circumstances of a part of the epilogue made me think of Last Kiss, by Taylor Swift. I just felt bad for the epilogue's narrator, because of the years that had passed and the sense of loss that permeated the story then.

Done! It was fun, since the covers were all from books I've read. Though the puzzles were challenging, some of the covers have few details and simple background colours, which makes the puzzle harder to piece together.

I always have fun on these, WWRead-a-thons make me feel free with my reading and with the challenges, which I can do anyday, so this is bound to be a few good days for reading. I don't expect to read more than the average, since I will be quise busy during weekdays, but I'll try.

I may read some of the physical books on the picture, since DoGaM is long overdue (but I'll be quite busy, and Laini Taylor deserves my best attention, so maybe not), Juliet Grey's will be read this month for a challenge, and I'm trying to read Meg/Patricia Cabot's books as personal challenge. I hope to be able to acquire The Caller (not pictured) this week, and I adore the author, so that one is a possibility.

Then, there are the comic books I would prefer to read - TGwtDT is a recent aquisition, and I'm very curious; and I'm definitely reading Captain America: Winter Soldier, since the second volume comes out this forthcoming week in Portugal.

I was away for a few days, and when I arrived home today I had in my mailbox some notices to go to my local post office and pick up a few books that came for me. (That explains the pathetic, rushed job I did with Paint to represent those books.) I definitely will read Champion, because I should already be reading that one for a challenge (I blame the mailman for this one; if it came earlier, I could have read it while vacationing this week). And I'm terribly excited for All Lined Up (which also has been a nightmare to arrive here... I really have poor luck with the mail services) and Rivals in the City, so those are definitely an option. (If they are waiting for me in the post office, that is. Please be waiting for me in the post office. Please.)
